Our Religious Neighbors Next Door

Today's Silicon Valley is home to communities from virtually all of the world's religions.  Indigenous peoples, Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox Christians, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Muslims, Buddhists, Pagans, Jains, B'ahai, Jews, Mormons, Sikhs, and others have put down roots here, making our region a microcosm of the globe's diverse religious landscape.

Using the metaphor from the title of one of Silicon Valley Read's 2012 books, Sumbul Ali-Karamali's The Muslim Next Door, the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council (SiVIC) is sponsoring a project to introduce these diverse religious neighbors to one another and the wider community.  From January 25 through March 31, SiVIC will invite local congregations and organization to submit photos that capture their distinctive identities. The resulting collection -- or better, collective snapshot of religion in the Valley in 2012 -- will be published online and exhibited in April.  For further information, visit SiVIC's website: sivicouncil.org.
