About the event
Painter and art educator Xu Beihong (1895-1953) is known as the father of modern Chinese painting. His animal paintings exemplify the expressive techniques of Chinese painting to their fullest extent. However, few people are aware of his connection to music. Composer Jiang Wenye (1910-1983) was one of the first composers to create Chinese music for Western orchestras and piano. The book Xu Beihong's Color-And-Ink Paintings - Piano Concerto by Jiang Wenye tells the story of how the handwritten score of Jiang Wenye's concerto, which depicts Xu Beihong's ink paintings, was rediscovered after being lost for half a century, and how it was brought back to life.
Registration not necessary, doors open at 1:55pm.
